Angela Hill, 73, of Winterset, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation with family present to receive friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Ochiltree Funeral Service, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials to the family will be appreciated. On-line condolences may be directed to the family at www.ochiltree.com Angela Hilda Steffen was born in Crofton, Cedar County, Nebraska on November 3, 1937, the daughter of Gilbert John and Coletta Elizabeth (Maly) Steffen. She graduated from Wakonda High School in Wakonda, SD and following graduation worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Later, she attended IBM Training School, learning to be a punch-card operator. This was her job after moving to Des Moines to work for Northwestern Bell. It was while she was working at Bell that she met her future husband. She married Albert George Hill at St. John Basilica in Des Moines on November 23, 1963 and to this union six children were born. After her wedding, Angela settled into the role of wife and mother. She and Albert raised their family on their farm near Peru. Angela was a homemaker most of her life, and later co-owned Pantry Shelves in Winterset with her friend, Jo Agan. She also volunteered her time to organize and manage the food coop in Winterset. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and participated in Bible Study, 3rd Order of St. Francis, Prayer Group as well as being a Eucharistic Minister. She was also the Religious Education Coordinator for several years at St. Joseph, sang in their choir and enjoyed helping her husband make and repair rosaries. Angela also volunteered her time as a ‘taxi’ for many who needed transportation to church and appointments in Winterset and Des Moines. She was a selfless woman who strived to live her life as to reflect her faith and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Angela is survived by her six children, Anthony Hill of Peru; Anna Hill of Marion; Arlene (Chris) Werner of Hopkinton; Rita (Rich) Coates of Cedar Rapids; Arthur (Kris) Hill of Carlisle; and Steve (Julie) Hill of Dubuque; 17 grandchildren (Daniel Coates, Rachel May, Zack Werner, Andrew Hill, Gabe Coates, Jessica May, Devin Werner, Max Werner, Jonathan Hill, Sam Coates, Alex Werner, Nicholas Hill, Addie Coates, Camrun Werner, Nate Coates, Tyler Hill, and Logan Werner) and siblings, Antonette Lange of Norfolk, NE; William (Bonnie) Steffen of Ogden; Bernard (Ruth) Steffen of Wakonda, SD; Leon (Linda) Steffen of Holiday Island, AR; Roman (Ruth) Steffen of Menominee, NE and a brother-in-law, John Carpenter of Apple Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert on March 26, 2011; two grandchildren, Catherine and Faith Hill; a sister, Aileen Carpenter and a brother-in-law, Quinten Lange.
