Catherine Mary Heinen

Catherine Mary Heinen, 82, of Des Moines, died from dementia at Valley View Village. She was born on June 25, 1941. She was the 4th of 16 children.

Cathy is survived by her children, Sonya, Shawn, Tina, and LeiLani; grandchildren, Tanner, Tucker, Brooke, Matthew, Jacob, Laura, and Jaylen; and great grandchildren, Hazel, Titus, Kai, Layla, Grayson, Willow, and Emerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marian McCarthy; and former husband James Heinen.

Cathy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed bird watching, and reading newspapers from around the country. Cathy ran her own courier service called Cathy’s Courier. She was extremely proud to have driven over 3 million miles across the United States.

A Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 9th, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation being held one hour prior beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Algona. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Cathy’s favorite saying was, “That’s fancy.”
