Charles Noonan, 85, of Patterson, Iowa died December 12, 2013. A military graveside service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2014 and a reception will immediately follow at the American Legion Post # 403 in Van Meter. Memorials may be made to the family. Charles Irvin Noonan was born June 11, 1928 in Galesburg, Illinois to Irvin and Susan (Raser) Noonan. He graduated from LeMoyne High School in LeMoyne, Pennsylvania and moved to Des Moines. He later enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and served during the Korean War until 1951. Charles worked for John Deere in Ankeny retiring after a 28 year career, as well as farming during most of his working years. Charles was not one to join organizations but rather enjoyed the time he could spend on his farm. He also loved to read and he and Mary Lou enjoyed their 17 years wintering in Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Lou Noonan of Patterson; his three children, Ed (Kris) Noonan of Minburn, Patricia (Ben) Barnes of California, and Susan Noonan of Red Oak; his five step-children, Larry (Carol) Vokes of Adel, Terry Vokes of Ames, Cheri (Mike) Bauer of West Des Moines, Cindy Vokes of Waukee, and Tammy (Kurt) Hansen of Clive. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a good neighbor and friend, Ted Benshoof of Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Baltutat; two sisters, Mary Ritger and Thelma Den Otter; and a grandson.
