Darryl Van Holton

August 16, 1973 — February 28, 2022

Darryl Albert Van Holton, 48, of Dexter IA, lost his battle with Covid on February 28, 2022, and entered into his eternal resting place with our Heavenly Father. Darryl was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, co-worker and much loved by his many dogs. Darryl was born in Burlingame, CA to Daniel and Debra Van Holton on August 16, 1973. He also resided in Sunland and Lancaster CA. Growing up Darryl loved dove, quail, duck hunting and fishing on the ocean with his dad. Darryl and Dariann met in November of 1998 when he was employed at AV Ford as a transmission mechanic and Dariann was a job coach supporting a special needs client who worked there. His hazel eyes, crooked smile, his kindness and compassion stole her heart. They married on September 11, 1999, in Leona Valley, CA and were married for 22 years. They raised their two children in Littlerock, CA and Llano, CA before relocating to North Platte, NE in 2011 for his dream job working on locomotives with the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved their family to Des Moines, IA in 2020 due to a job change within Union Pacific Railroad. Darryl loved his family, dogs…many dogs; Mummzy, Cutie, Ginger, Daisy, Lily and Wendy (who crossed over the rainbow bridge just a few weeks ago)…camping, sitting by the campfire, watching movies, eating out, drag racing, and NASCAR. Darryl’s passion was working on cars and tinkering in the garage. When he turned 18, his longtime family friend, ‘Uncle Harley’ gave him his treasured 1977 Ford F150. We still have it to this day and it will be gifted to his son. He was our big teddy bear, had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. His wife, children, dogs and truck were his world. Darryl and Dariann attended New Hope Church in Adel, IA. Darryl was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and will now forever be in His presence serving Him in Heaven. Even though they were only a part of New Hope for a short time, he loved his church family. As we walked to our car after our first day of attending Darryl said, “This is what a church should feel like, family.” The friendships that were built were something Darryl loved. He will forever be our Angel watching over us. Darryl was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Tory Carlon and grandparents-in-law Mathew and Luella Carlon, grandparents John McGhee, Jacquelyn LaGrand, and Uncle Randy McGhee. Darryl is survived by his wife, Dariann; son, Darick (22); daughter, Darissa (17); father and mother, Daniel and Debra VanHolton; brothers, Jason (Jaime), Ben, and Chris; grandmother, ‘Sam’ McGhee; aunts, Carolyn Cummins McGhee and Peggy Coffelt; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Bonnie Carlon; sister-in-laws, Tara Eaves (John), Laralee Seargeant (Rick), Heidi Carlon; brother-in-law, Brent Carlon (Joyce); nieces and nephews, Dylan, Mariah, Ashley, Callan, Skylar, Ryker, Larissa, Delaney, Galilee, Jackson, Harrison, Jordy, Kody, Amanda, Carlene, Alicia, Olivia, Alyna, Joslyn, Brynn and Bree.
