David Schaaf

David Schaaf, 38, of Des Moines passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Visitation will be on Friday, February 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 29, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. David was born on January 25, 1982, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, which is where he grew up until his family moved to Davenport, Iowa, in 1996. In high school at Davenport North, David enjoyed playing soccer and football, and he also was active in his church and youth group. He went on to study at St. Ambrose University and transferred to Drake University in Des Moines, where he graduated with a B.A. in Journalism in 2004. While attending Drake, David met his wife, Kristin, and they married in August 2007. They have two beautiful daughters, Hannah (6) and Hailey (3). David was the director of marketing for the Iowa Pharmacy Association, which was a job he truly enjoyed. He immersed himself in the never-ending list of home improvement projects, both indoors and out, and special projects he could do with his daughters, including choosing flowers together to plant every spring. David was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and shared his love of the game with his family. Faith and family were most important to David, and he loved being a dad to his two daughters and a devoted husband to his wife. He enjoyed volunteering at and attending the Vineyard Church. David is survived by his wife; children; mother, Karen Schaaf; siblings Laura (Kenn) Ashby, Brian Schaaf (fiancé Gabrielle Bradford); one niece and three nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Schaaf; grandparents Cletus and Lillian Weber, and Peter and Dorothy Schaaf. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be used for the future education of David’s daughters.
