He was 85 years old. Dennis, born February 19, 1936 to Carl Francis and Eleanor (Anderson) Dixon, grew up in Gowrie, Iowa. He graduated from Gowrie High School in 1954 prior to attending Iowa State University in Ames, where he earned a degree in Journalism in 1958. Dennis was recognized as “Photographer of the Year” for his work for the Iowa State University newspaper. Dennis served two years with U.S. Army forces based in Germany, igniting a passion for languages and international experiences. After completing his military service, Dennis joined Hy-Line International, today the world’s oldest and largest primary breeder of egg-laying chickens. Based in West Des Moines, Iowa, Hy-line had recently begun to expand beyond the domestic market. This expansion offered him opportunities to live and work in Argentina and Brazil, where he became proficient in both Spanish and Portuguese. Moving back to the USA in 1968, he held regional and international sales director roles based in Hy-Line’s corporate headquarters while living in rural homes in Waukee and Adel. Dennis’s extensive travels allowed him to cultivate international friendships which he maintained by Facebook even while in retirement. Retiring in 2000, Dennis dabbled in international business consulting for some local companies regarding international business, travelled the states with his wife, Darlene, in their Airstream trailer, attended his six grandkids various sports and music performances, and served their church community. His daily walks with his dog Boomer made him a familiar presence in the housing community where he lived, never so hurried that he would not stop and chat with neighbors. Fall Saturdays would find Dennis attending an Iowa State Cyclones football game, while he spent summer evenings loyally listening or watching his beloved Kansas City Royals. However, his foremost trait was his strong Christian faith, which he demonstrated through his love for others. He read and studied his Bible and prayed for his family, friends and community daily. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene (Lipke), with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; sons, Mark (wife Sunyoung), Tom (wife Thu Ha), and Stephen (wife Paola); six grandchildren, Tom and Thu Ha’s children Amelia, Andrew, Zachary and Lily, Mark and Sunyoung’s son Timothy and Steve & Paola’s son Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.F. and Eleanor and C.F.’s second wife, Velva; brother, Douglas Dixon; and his infant son, Andrew Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Crossroad Church, 18293 365th Street, Earlham, Iowa, followed by interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa at 2pm. Family will greet friends on Monday, December 20th from 5-7 pm at the church.
