Dennis Raymond Murphy, son of Otto James Murphy and Leota Estella Wright, was born May 7, 1944 in Scranton, Iowa and died June 18, 2006 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 11 days. Dennis was raised in Scranton and attended school there. On June 11, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to Barbara Jo-Ann Thorp. They were the parents of 2 children: Dennis Jr. and Brenda. They lived in Scranton and Churdan, before making there home in the Rippey area. Dennis was employed by AAI for nearly 40 years. Dennis was a member of the Church of Christ in Scranton. While living in Churdan, Dennis volunteered for the Churdan Fire Department. Dennis was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He took his grandchildren fishing whenever he had the chance. He also loved to garden and his garden was usually quite large. Dennis and Barb also like to play cards. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Robert Murphy; and sister: Vida Thorpe. He is survived by his wife Barbara of Rippey; son: Dennis Murphy Jr. (Misti) of Grand Junction; daughter: Brenda Murphy (Juan Baltazar) of Jefferson; 7 grandchildren: Libby Litizel of Ames; James, Jared, Jesse and Kimber Murphy of Grand Junction; and Christopher and Kelly Martin of Jefferson; 3 great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Linden and Bethany; 3 brothers: Clarence (Bev) Murphy of Scranton; Larry (Bev) Murphy of Jefferson; and Jim Murphy of Des Moines; 5 sisters: Faye Wood (LaVern) of Scranton; Patricia Smith of Bagley; Iris Kelley (Russell) of Scranton; Beverly K. Appling (Paul) of Oregon; and Bonnie Fogarty of Grand Junction; niece, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
