Don Bruett, 79, of Winterset died on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27 at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 26 at Ochiltree’s. Memorials may be directed to the Winterset FFA. Donald Wayne Bruett was born December 20, 1933, the son of Otis and Florence (Thompson) Bruett. He went to school at Truro and graduated from Winterset High School in 1952. In early years, Don worked at several jobs and farmed alongside his dad. One of his favorite jobs and where he learned many trades was Jackson Electric. After 2 years of service in the United States Army in Germany, he returned to Madison County to farm. Don’s greatest joy came when he married Linda Libby on July 8, 1979 in Winterset, Iowa on his farm. Don drove a school bus for 25 years for the Winterset School district. He was involved in the Madison County Auction for 40 years and also had his own snow removal business for 45 years. Don loved motorcycles and antique tractors. Don and Linda took many motorcycle trips which he always enjoyed and he also loved boating and trips to Arkansas with his family. More than anything, Don loved time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Linda Bruett of Winterset; children, Rhonda (Dan) Lauer of Winterset; Tracy (Steve) Briley of Newton; Chuck (Angela) Joynes of Altoona; three children from a previous marriage, Rick Bruett of Macksburg; Randy Bruett of Winterset and Linda Sue Field of Columbus, OH; a sister, Mary Jo Bruett of West Des Moines; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren; Colby and Tessa.
