Visitation for Bill will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm with a public rosary at 3:45 pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory in Urbandale. Funeral Mass for Bill will be on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church with his son Fr. Daniel Hammer presiding. Bill will be buried at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund for Dr. William Hammer has been set up at GreenState Credit Union. 2610 SW White Birch Dr. Ankeny IA 50023 We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. William D. Hammer, O.D. of Ankeny, Iowa. He was called home at the age of 62 on July 22nd, 2022. He was a great husband, father, son, brother, an even better Papa of 10 grandchildren and friend to many. Left to carry on his legacy is the love of his life, Teri Hammer [Heeney] to whom he was married to on May 26, 1984. Bill was born in Storm Lake, IA on April 11, 1960 to Richard and Florence Hammer [Goche]. He graduated from Heelan High School in Sioux City, IA in 1978. Bill continued his education at Drake University, identifying his passion of service to become an Optometrist and later graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He lived in Brainerd, MN for 12 years, most recently moving to Ankeny, IA to spend more time with family. Bill filled his time with many hobbies; including boating, kayaking, rosary making, fishing with his grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends and many more hobbies. Bill’s unwavering faithfulness and love in Christ was evident in his devotions including praying the rosary daily, adoration, and frequenting the sacraments. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teri Hammer; children, Sarah (Eric) Tjarks, Tony (Kara) Hammer, Abby (Andres) Gonzalez, Fr. Daniel Hammer, Joe Hammer, and Micah Hammer; grandchildren Boston, Caelon, and Poppy Tjarks; Averie, Lincoln, and Ivy Hammer, Theo, Rosalynd, Louis, and Julian Gonzalez; mother, Florence Hammer; siblings, Mike (Katrina) Hammer, Tom Hammer, Jim Hammer, Joni (Greg) Long, and Donnie Hammer and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hammer.
