Eldon Cole, 77, of Winterset, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 13, 2022 at the MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the New Bridge Church in Winterset. Funeral Service will take place at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the New Bridge Church with Rev. Dr. John Shaull, Pastor Mike Carlson, and Pastor Michael Ames presiding. Burial will take place in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation. Eldon Ray Cole, was born on May 25, 1945 in Omaha, NE. He attended Carson-Macedonia High School and graduated in 1963. Eldon chose to further his education at Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, NE prior to joining the Army. He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1969. He married Velva Jean Welch on October 1, 1967 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church.
Eldon was very involved in his community, church and other organizations over the years. He rode his motorcycle with the Patriot Guard Riders, and stood guard for his fellow veterans. He was involved with disaster relief through his church and was instrumental in helping distribute clothing and essential materials to families of Madison County following the March E-4 tornado. He was a man of service and gave back to his community in many ways. He served as a Fireman for 13 years and was a chaplain at multiple racetracks with Team 316.
When he wasn’t busy serving others, he enjoyed fishing. He made many fishing trips to the Gulf of Mexico. His smoked meats won over the hearts of many family and friends, and was enjoyed by everyone. He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and was a big race fan.
Eldon is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Velva; daughter, DeAnn (Tim) Luloff; son, Tim (Angella) Cole; bonus son, Bobby (Jill) Bowman; siblings, David (Shirley) Meyers, Paula Meyers, Bonnie Rood, Phillip Meyers, Janice (Ron) Reuter and John (Beth) Meyers; sister-in-law, Leora Fort; grandchildren, Andrew, Gracie, Chad, and Niki; bonus grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsie and Tyson; great grandchildren, Ava and Mia; bonus great grandchildren, Peyton, Liam, Lilly, Caidence, Charlynne and Creed along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mildred Meyers; son, Michael Cole; brothers, Vernon Cole, Ron Cole and Edward Meyers Jr.; and his grandparents.
