Burial: Moon Cemetery, rural Macksburg. Memorials: Military Community Youth Ministries (Youth for Christ) Box 4478, Englewood, CO 80155. Estel Verle Welch was born in Carroll County, Iowa on December 6, 1918, the son of Adam and Maude (Stoolman) Welch. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1938 and attended Boeing Aeronautics School in Omaha, NE. He married Juanita Fischer on December 14, 1941and to this union two daughters were born, Velva and Linda. He lived and worked on a farm near Lake City with his parents until his move to Madison County in 1950. Estel continued to farm and worked for Rolling Hills FS (Agriland), until his retirement at the age of 62. Estel was a member of Fellowship Church and attended the Macksburg Methodist Church. He was involved with the Macksburg Fun Band and the Macksburg Town Council. Estel enjoyed many trips with Rolling Hills FS and Union State Bank. He liked Shetland ponies and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and gardening. Estel died Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. He was 92. Estel is survived by his wife, Juanita of Winterset; his two daughters, Velva Cole (husband, Eldon) of Winterset and Linda Kafer (husband, Fred) of Aurora, CO; a sister, LaVon Brainard (Kenny Schuning) of Mountain Home, AR; six grandchildren, DeAnn Luloff (husband, Tim), Mike Cole, Tim Cole (wife, Angella), Teresa Kafer, Sonya Kafer, and Aaron Kafer (wife, Pam); four great-grandchildren, Andrew Cole, Gracie Cole, Ruby Kafer, Lucy Kafer, Niki Luloff (Jerry Downing), and Chad Luloff; a great great-granddaughter, Ava Downing; and caregiver, Mary Tripp. He was preceded in death by his parents.
