On Friday, August 3, 2012 Evelyn Springer Hoyt left her friends to join her husband Warren, parents and brothers and sister. Evelyn Loraine Springer was born in Grand Junction, Iowa July 7, 1921 the daughter of Lillian Lorenzen Springer and Harold Springer. Evelyn grew up in Eastern Greene County, Iowa attending school and graduating from Dana High School. The Springer Family was well know in the Jefferson/Grand Junction areas of Greene County. Evelyn's Great Grandfather and Grandmother Stephen Herron and Rebecca Kelly settled in Grand Junction in 1869 and plotted South Grand Junction. Stephen and Rebecca built the "Herron Mansion" that was later referred to as the "Humphrey Home", in Grand Junction. The Grand Junction street names Elizabeth, Bennett, Herron, Kelly and Rebecca were named after Herron Family Members. Evelyn spent her early years in Grand Junction later moving to a farm in the Dana Area. She graduated from Dana High School, where she participated in basketball, in 1939. For a number of years she was employed at the J.C. Penny Store in Jefferson. Evelyn met Warren Hoyt at a "Friday Night Dance" in Grand Junction and on October 17, 1943, she married Warren Anderson Hoyt son of David and Bessie Anderson Hoyt from Bagley. With her sister Ruth Springer Jones as her attendant and Warren's brother Ray as best man the wedding took place in the Grand Junction Methodist Church. Following the wedding Evelyn and Warren lived in Bagley where Warren farmed the Hoyt Farm south of Bagley. In 1950 they purchased 120 acres just east of the Hoyt Farm and the Bagley area are where they lived when their three children; William Warren, 1945, Catherine Louise, 1948 and Candace Leann, 1953 were born. In 1963 Evelyn and Warren and family moved to Norco, LA where Warren was employed at a grain exporting firm. For several years Evelyn sold Avon products and at one time was Assistant District Manager. They returned to live on the Bagley farm in 1973 later moving to Perry. Evelyn enjoyed entertaining friends, especially if she could cook for them; she could always prepare a great meal. She Loved to play bridge and watch sports on TV, especially NASCAR Races, play and play golf. She was a member of the Bagley Bridge Club, Amicus Club of Bagley and the Bagley Methodist Church. At the time of her death she was a resident of Regency Park Nursing & Rehab Center of Jefferson. She enjoyed her many new friends wonderful care at Regency. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren in 1993 and siblings Ruth Springer Jones (Robert) in 2004; Clarence "Hap" (Ruby) in 2004, John (Esther) in 2009 and Gene (Mary) in 1999 and granddaughter Heather Havens in 1987. Evelyn is survived by her sister-in-law Esther Michel Springer; three children Bill, Cathy Wishman (Mel) and Candy Nash (Paul), six grandchildren Doug Hoyt (Leanna) of Madrid; Curt Hoyt of Perry; Teresa Cross (Dan) of Jefferson, Trevor Wishman of Naples, FL; Natasha Hoyt of NC, Britt Havens of Ames; Brook Havens (Debra) of Des Moines; great grand children Kaylinn Hoyt, Eli Hoyt, Blaine Hoyt, Brody Hoyt, Qualyen Havens, Stephanie Joy, Emily Joy and Zoe Joy. Evelyn has donated her remains to the Medical Center at Des Moines University. Burial will take place when her remains are returned. Funeral Arrangements are being conducted by Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson and this is where there will be a visitation service on Monday, August 6 at 7:00.
