Frances Gronert

Frances Gronert passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Kennybrook Village in Grimes. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, with a program beginning at 6 PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Highland Park Christian Church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Creston Iowa at a later date. Frances Darlene Jones was born May 13, 1927, to Burton and Helen Jones in Spencer, Iowa. The family moved to Creston in 1933 where her father served as superintendent of schools. Frances completed high school and Junior College in Creston and graduated in Home Economics at Iowa State College in 1950. She taught in Newton, Slater and Ankeny. Frances married Walter Gronert August 19,1951. They lived in Ames until her husband graduated from Iowa State College and began a teaching career in Des Moines in 1954. Frances was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church and was a 60 plus year member of PEO, Chapter KT. She enjoyed family and friends, travel (3 Alaska trips); Elderhostels; reading, especially mysteries; baking tea rings, rolls and cookies; sewing; making jams, jellies, and apple butter; flower gardening and helping neighbors/friends. She was an avid sports fan. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walt; son John (Linda), Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Ben and Elizabeth; daughter, Susan Sinnwell (Bill), Greeley, Colorado; granddaughters, Hannah and Lauren; daughter, Nancy Leiran (Steve), Waukon, Iowa; granddaughters Megan and Katelyn; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family wants to thank the Kennybrook and hospice staff for their care and compassion for Fran.
