Geno Joseph Bertini of Madrid, Iowa passed away at the age of 85 on Monday, July 20, 2020. A Public Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Madrid, with a Private Mass of Christian Burial following the Visitation at 10:30 am. A Burial will follow the Mass at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Madrid. Geno was born on May 28, 1935 in Granger, Iowa to Andy and Mary Bertini. After graduating from high school he went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Geno met his wife Marlene Crouse and together they raise 3 children. Geno spent his working days as a farmer and tractor/car mechanic. He put in many years at Firestone and ultimately retired from Boone County where he worked as a mechanic, but he continued farming until his last days. In his free time he enjoyed going fishing in Canada and dancing with his wife whenever the occasion came about. He was well liked by everyone he met and his good sense of humor earner him many lifelong friendships. Geno will be missed tremendously by everyone. Those left to cherish Geno’s memory include his daughters, Carla Pendarvis and Paula Gordon; his son, Mark (Jennifer) Bertini; his brother, Paul (Rose Marie) Bertini; and sisters, Eldinia Gibbons and Diane Mallory; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Mary; his wife, Marlene; his brother, Andy Bertini Jr; his sisters, Jenny Fursaro, Rose Marie Gibbons, and Elsie Partridge; and a grandson, Christopher Auxier. Memorial contributions can be directed to St. Malachy’s Catholic Church or Wild Thunder Wildlife and Animal Rehabilitation Sanctuary.
