A service for Gladys Irene Tryon "Peg" was held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Pastor John Augspurger of the Adel United Methodist Church provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were her grandchildren: Scott Tryon, Kristi Fuller, Jason Tryon, Carrie Blackburn, David Tryon, Laurie Dawes, and Trent Criswell. Elta Summerson was the pianist. Hymns were: In The Garden and What A Friend We Have In Jesus. Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Gladys "Peg" Tryon, daughter of Ada Victoria Bell and Albert L. Blackwell was born January 22, 1925 at rural Defiance, Iowa and died December 24, 2013 at her home in Perry at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 2 days. Peg, as she was fondly called, attended rural school and graduated from Defiance Public High School. Peg grew up with and dated her loving husband Ray during high school and the two were married May 8, 1946 at Ray's Grandmother Hunt's home in Defiance. Peg worked for the local telephone company in Defiance and then for J. C. Penney's and several other stores in Denison. Peg and Ray lived in Glidden and then Linden where Ray owned and operated a produce and trucking business while Peg held down the home front. The couple then moved to Perry in 1972. Peg was an avid bowler and played on league teams for many years until the bowling alley in Perry burned. She enjoyed the senior luncheons at the McCreary Community Building, sewing, and loved bird watching. She could always tell people when certain species of birds would start appearing in the spring. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Ray for 62 years; four brothers; Leland, Kenneth, Lawrence and Harold Blackwell; and sister Gay Kerns. She is survived by sons Bob Tryon and wife Deb of Adel, Iowa; Ron Tryon and wife Pam of Adel, Iowa; daughter Vicki "Tori" Criswell of Des Moines, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, Scott Tryon and wife Laura; Kristi Fuller and husband Brad; Jason Tryon and wife Laura; Carrie Blackburn and husband Josh; David Tryon; Laurie Dawes and husband Colby; and Trent Criswell; 9 great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gage, and Zachary Fuller; Briley and Carter Tryon; Braylon and Bryce Dawes & Jack and Emily Tryon; sisters Gen Roy and Carmen (Mack) Hubley of Oklahoma City, OK; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. www.hastingsfh.com
