Harriett Jackson, 85, of Winterset died Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 17 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where the family will be present to receive friends at this time. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 18 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First United Presbyterian Church and/or the Winterset Community School District Athletics Department. Online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com Harriett Lorena Jansen, daughter of Ben and Kate (Marinus) Jansen, was born September 19, 1930 at the farm in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1948 and continued her education at the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She met her future husband, Hal Jackson, on a blind date in St. Louis. The couple was united in marriage on March 26, 1954 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. Harriett worked as the Director of Nursing at the University of Iowa while Hal completed his Pharmacy Degree. The couple made their home in Winterset, and she worked at the Madison County Hospital. Harriett later became the Director of Nursing at the Bethesda Nursing Home (currently West Bridge Care & Rehab). She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, Iowa Nurses Association, and a past MCHCS Hospital Board member. Harriett enjoyed being a guide at Madison County Historical Society. Harriett and Hal loved to travel to visit their children visiting places such as: Alaska, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. The couple also traveled to many Iowa Hawkeyes bowl games and to Cancun. Harriett had fond memories of driving the football cheerleaders to away games when her children were in school. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished nothing more than the time she spent with her family. Harriett is survived by her husband of 61 years, Hal Jackson of Winterset; five children, Doug (Connie) Jackson of Denver, CO, Ben (Lisa) Jackson of Anchorage, AK, Kathy (Delton) Sas of Denver, CO, Dan (Melissa) Jackson of Dallas, TX, and Brad (Carol) Jackson of Altoona; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Andy Jansen of Oskaloosa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Everett Jansen; sisters, Garlene Jansen and Virginia Veenstra.
