Helen Olsasky, 92, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church with burial at Lincoln Cemetery in Jefferson Township. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, Urbandale, IA. Helen was born in rural Polk County, IA on January 5, 1925 to Sadie Cory Eckert and Gail Eckert. She married Wallace Olsasky and they raised their children in Johnston and Urbandale, IA. Helen then worked at Mercy Hospital Credit Union until her retirement in 1990. She was active in her church Women’s Guild, Mercy Hospital Volunteer Services and Bishop Drumm Guild. She volunteered many hours, everything from working the information desk at the hospital to the service cart at Bishop Drumm. She was a very devout Catholic and lived the message daily. Helen is survived by her daughters, Becky (Jerry) Brown and Susy (Greg) Young; sons, Wallace Jr. (Jackie), Joseph (Lesley), John (Linda), Chris, and Bruce (Jennifer) Nine; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves sisters-in-law, Betty Eckert, Sherry Eckert, and Betty Martin and brothers-in-law, Bob and Jim Olsasky. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughters, Mary Ann Harlan and Dolores Olsasky; daughter-in-law, Lori Olsasky; her parents, and brothers, Issiah Frank, Gail Jack and Tom Eckert. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary of Nazareth Church.
