Irene Joan Hantsbarger

Irene Joan (Vermie) Hantsbarger, 87, died November 28, 2021, at MercyOne Hospice House in Johnston following a stroke. She was born in Terril, Iowa and graduated from Mitchellville High School and the American Institute of Business. Irene was married to Paul Hantsbarger for 67 years. They raised their children in Cambridge and moved to Des Moines in 1987. Paul predeceased Irene on November 1, 2021. She is survived by her daughter Diane (David) Davidson and their children Philip (Marina) Davidson, Michael (Beth) Davidson and Elizabeth (Stephen) Miller, and great-grandchildren, Liam, Natalie, Alistair, Charles Miller and Michael Davis Miller; son Brian (Barbara) and their children Jonathan (Jing) and Kristen (Robert) Pierce and great-grandchildren, Emma, Eliana and Nora Pierce; son Mark (Edith) and their daughter Sara Letsch and son Gary (Jennifer) and their children Janine (Marina Mazur) and Matthew. She is also survived by her siblings; Herbert Vermie and Lillian Duethman and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Hantsbarger; parents Simon and Virda (Freel) Vermie; her siblings Mamie (Halford) Kooker, Ailene (Jack) Lansing, Elmer (Ann) Vermie and Wilmer (Mary) Vermie, Esther Vermie; sister-in-law Donna Vermie; brother-in-law Raymond Duethman. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec 1, 2021 from 12:30p.m. to 1:30p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory followed by a memorial service beginning at 1:30p.m.The family requests those in attendance of the visitation and the service to please wear a mask.
