Joe Wayne Butler

Joe Butler, age 74 of Perry, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, at his home in Perry, IA. A gathering of friends will be on Sunday, September 19, 2021, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Memorials will be given to Special Olympics and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Joe Wayne Butler was born on May 24, 1947, at Des Moines IA to Milbern Jack and Ethel Nina (Lutz) Butler. He graduated from Dallas Center High School with the class of 1965. He served in the United States Air National Guard of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Rothmeyer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on June 22, 1968. He worked at Oscar Mayer for 30 years, IBP, and then over the road trucking as an independent operator, until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church the Moose Lodge, was Vice President Local P1149 Union, and the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and sprint car racing. He also liked to go fishing and was a Perry girls softball coach. He loved watching grandchildren's sports and reading Westerns and War books. In death he rejoins his parents, Jack and Ethel Butler and his sisters, Dorothy, Imogene and Madge. Left to cherish Joes memory are his wife Barbara, Perry, IA children, Tami Lamon, Oklahoma City, OK, Kari (Tony) Vess, Oklahoma City, OK, and Jack (Erin) Butler, Perry, IA, grandchildren, Gina, Travis, Tasha, Breana, Melissa, Cody, Dylan, and Chloe, 12 great grandchildren, and a sister, Cathy Deardorff, Perry, IA.
