Joseph Matson

Joseph (Joe) Francis Matson passed away on February 12, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Joe was born September 21, 1944 to James (Roy) and Viola Matson in Elk Point, South Dakota. Joe attended and graduated school in Elk Point. He then resided in Sioux City, Iowa where he met his wife, Lynn. They were married on November 23, 1968 and had two daughters. They resided in Sioux City for many years before moving to Omaha for 10 years and then settling in Clive, Iowa for the next 27 years. His lifes work was in marketing/advertising. He retired as an advertising executive of Younkers in 1999. He had a green thumb and enjoyed spring and summer when he could get out to grow his beautiful plant and flower collection. Joe is survived by his wife Lynn, daughters Lisa (Michael) Hansen of Las Vegas, Nevada and Nikki (David) Struchen of Jewell, Iowa, and granddaughter Gabrielle Struchen. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Joel) Ryan of Elk Point; brother-in-law Bruce (Jana) Samuelson of Jefferson, South Dakota; three sisters-in-law Barb, Lois and Irene Matson all of South Dakota, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Robert and Jean Samuelson; brothers Charles, Richard, Stanley, Gary and David; sister and brother-in-law Bette and Rodney Siebens. Visitation will be held at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa (8201 Hickman Road) on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m. at the same location. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
