Juanita “Nita” Beal was born on June 11, 1937 to Axel Edward and Kathryn Hanson in McPherson, Kansas. After her father passed away in 1943, her mother remarried and moved to a farm outside Windom, Kansas. In 1951, the family moved to Hamilton, Kansas and Nita and her brother Daryl lived with their maternal grandmother until she graduated from high school in 1955. She entered the Newman Hospital School of Nursing in the fall of 1955. She worked as a nurse from her graduation in 1959 until her retirement in 2015. She went to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Drake University in 1986. Her main professional work was in neurosurgery. Juanita married her high school sweetheart Clever Tyson “Ty” Beal on May 4, 1957. In 1963 she was blessed with a daughter, Kristen Susann, who became the center of Ty and Nita’s life. This “center” became larger with the addition of beloved grandchildren, Benjamin and Baily. Nita always felt thankful for her many blessings. Juanita is survived by her husband of 64 years Ty; daughter Kristen (Rich); grandchildren Ben and Baily; Sisters Jetty Chaney from Grimes, Carla Wolf from Maryland, Clarence Carlson from Pratt, KS, Marion (Terri) from Florida; Brother Eddy (Viola) Carlson from McPherson, KS; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Kathryn, Daryl Hanson and Paul Cartwright. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Des Moines First, 2725 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, Iowa. A service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Des Moines First, 2725 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Juanita.
