Kenneth R. Harter

Kenneth R. Harter Jr., son of Kenneth R. Harter Sr. and Pauline Flanders Harter was born on September 8, 1934 in Ottumwa, Iowa and died December 21, 2010 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 76. Kenny, as he was lovingly known, graduated from Hedrick High School in 1951 and went to Parson's College on a football scholarship. He worked for Iowa Bridge, the railroad and drove truck for R.R. Transfer. The job he loved most was his gardening and selling his produce at Kenny's Stand in Jefferson for over 30 years. Kenny's favorite things to do were fishing, playing pinochle, and watching football and basketball. Kenny is survived by his wife Barbara and four children: Jeff Harter and Candy of Davenport, Iowa; Randy Harter and Ann of Davenport, Iowa; Mindy Harter and Roger of Des Moines, Iowa; Ellen Harter and Jim Trunnell of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kyle, Conner and Callie Trunnell of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Aaron Harter of Illinois; other relatives and many friends. Memorials in his name may be left at Hastings Funeral Home.
