Laurie Ann Akers, daughter of Robert and LaVine (Christians) Teske, was born February 7, 1966 in Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Joseph Akers on April 6, 1984, before her graduation from Alden Community High School. Immediately following her graduation, Laurie joined Joe in Germany, where he was stationed with the Army. During the first years of their marriage, they had many wonderful experiences while traveling Europe. They moved to Colorado after Germany, where Laurie graduated from The Art Institute of Colorado, with a degree in fashion merchandising. The couple finally settled in Winterset where they raised three wonderful children. Laurie was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Choir, and was a past Elder of the church. She led a youth group, Alleluia, and was a Cub Scout Leader. In her free time, Laurie enjoyed traveling, gardening, being outdoors, and cheering on her Denver Broncos. Laurie had a passion for reading, particularly Fantasy Sci-Fi books. She had a love of animals, especially her dog Jasmine. She helped raise chickens and goats and enjoyed watching her “Chicken T.V.” Above all else, Laurie was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister whose full smile and loving eyes will never be forgotten. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Akers of Winterset; children, Ethan (Kayla) Akers of Davenport, Shaun Akers of Des Moines, Elizabeth Akers of Winterset; parents, Robert and LaVine Teske of Alden; brother, Mark (Jennifer) Teske of Edwardsville, IL; parents-in-law, Larry and Janet Akers of Panora; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
