He started country school in Pitzer, Iowa at the age four and graduated from Winterset High School in l945. In his youth, he was active in 4-H, FFA, the Iowa State Fair and Aksarben. He started farming on the family farm northwest of Winterset after high school and has enjoyed raising livestock and crop farming for over seventy years. He also received great enjoyment caring for the numerous cats around the farmstead. He took great pride in his Case tractors and always kept the farmstead neat and tidy. During his illness, he found happiness knowing there were still cattle in the lot and watching the crops mature. Leland was a lifelong member of the Pitzer Presbyterian Church until its closing. He enjoyed livestock auctions and looked forward to volunteering as an announcer at the Madison County Fair 4-H cattle shows. He is survived by a brother, Leonard Pitcock and wife, Esther of Earlham; nieces, Marcia Pitcock of West Des Moines; Cathy (Pitcock) McFarland and husband, Paul of Indianola; nephew, Gary Pitcock and wife, Sherry of Dallas, TX; great-nephew, Patrick McFarland and wife, Tiffany of Olatha, KS; and great-nieces, Kelly (McFarland) Smith and husband, Chaney of Ankeny; Ashley Pitcock and Rachel Pitcock both of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents. The Pitcock family wishes to thank West Bridge Care Center and Middle River Hospice for his care.
