A Celebration of Life Service for LeRoy Robert Sherlock was held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Jefferson Elk's Club in Jefferson, Iowa with visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of these arrangements. Beth DeMoss, Kevin Sherlock and Sue Sherlock provided a time of sharing. Honorary casket bearers were: Kevin Sherlock, Roger Sherlock, Steve Sherlock, Gene Sherlock, Kirk Sherlock, Jeff Fulton, Darren Bishop, Randy Harter, Terry Long, Phil Costible, Lance Dzuris, Jarrod Rumley and Chris Stampe. Following the service was a time of lunch and fellowship at the Elk's. LeRoy Robert Sherlock, son of Julius Henry Sherlock and Anna Marie Nilles Sherlock, was born May 27, 1946 in Remsen, Iowa and died February 23, 2020 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. LeRoy was the twelfth born out of fourteen children. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Oyens and then graduated from Remsen High School in 1964. After high school he worked on the family farm until he moved to Jefferson in 1965. He lived with his brother, Jerry, and his family. He worked shortly with his brother for Shriver Construction while also serving in the Army National Guard. LeRoy and Claudette Marie May were united in marriage on November 11, 1967 in Grand Junction. The couple lived in an apartment in Jefferson, then built their new home in 1976 with the help of Claudette's father, Art May, and her brothers. They were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer, and son, Jason. LeRoy worked for Quad States for 20 years and Hoffman Construction for 19 years constructing concrete grain silos and steel grain bins. He retired in 2014. Every Labor Day for the past eight years, family would arrive with their campers in tow for "Lee Fest" to grill, stay up late and have fun! LeRoy liked watching John Wayne movies and Larry The Cable Guy. He collected logo hats and pendulum clocks. LeRoy and Vinnie Monahan grew tomatoes and made salsas, sauerkraut, juice and pickled beets. Friends were always stopping by the garage for cards or just to visit. In the winter they would have the wood burning stove going. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. LeRoy is survived by his wife Claudette Sherlock of Jefferson; daughter Jennifer Lane (Claire Jr.) of Eldora; son Jason Sherlock of Jefferson; two granddaughters Allison and Andrea Tucker; two brothers: Alfred "Sonny" Sherlock of Remsen and Cyril Sherlock (Phyllis) of California; six sisters: Helen Rolling of Kingsley, Loretta "Tiny" Hoss of LeMars, Mary Fulton (Bob) of LeMars, Julie McElhaney (Jim) of Sioux City, Esther Shrader (Tom) of LeMars and Norine Harvey (Keith) of Remsen; two special nieces: Beth DeMoss and Sue Sherlock; sister-in-law Zelda; his favorite pet and garage buddy, Sage; sisters-in-law: Gloria "Jeannie" May Clifford, Susan May Worley (Larry), Teresa May Manring (Randy), Karen May McCleeary, Susanna Stampe Hoffman, Kathrina "Kat" Stampe Zieser (Kelvin) and Paulette Stampe; brothers-in-law: Joseph May (Carol), Mathias "Mickey" May (Lana), Daniel May (Sheree) and Christian "Chris" Stampe (Peggy). Le Roy is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers and brothers-in-law: Mark Rolling, Rosie & Paul Kurth, Dick Hoss, Doris & Kenny Rolfes, Jerry & Judy Sherlock, Ray Sherlock, Pat & Jan Sherlock, other relatives and friends.
