LuAnn Carhill, daughter of William J. Meier and Helen Bodansky Meier, was born January 6, 1936 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Perry, Iowa. She died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in Ames, Iowa at the age of 76. LuAnn was baptized May 3, 1936 and confirmed on February 5, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton. LuAnn went to school at the Friedrichsen and Junction Country Schools until 9th grade. She graduated from Perry High School in 1954. On June 26, 1955 LuAnn married Donald Edward Carhill, and they moved to the farm 1 mile from where she grew up, and where they have since lived. LuAnn and Donald were blessed with a son Dale and daughter Cindy. LuAnn was active in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton where she served as a Deacon and assisted with the Lutheran Church Ladies Aide. LuAnn was, and always will be, very well loved. She worked for Asgrow Seed for 19 years as a Field Checker, traveling a large area in Iowa and Nebraska. LuAnn's angel food cakes were famous throughout the countryside. LuAnn loved and cared for many people. You could always count on a great meal and conversation at her kitchen table, and a helping hand when you needed one. She also shared her love with animals and her garden. The animals were served warm oatmeal during the cold winters and she graciously provided them with separate heating pads. Her bird friends provided her much joy and they were fed generously. LuAnn made bird baths of cake pans and made sure that they never had any ice in them throughout the winter. Her garden was always a source of joy and she had just finished canning tomatoes before she become ill. She loved to travel and go camping attending many state fairs with family and friends. She also liked gardening, planting flowers, and just being outdoors. LuAnn was preceded in death by her parents William and Helen Meier and brother Warren Meier and his wife Coleen. LuAnn's memory will be cherished by her husband Donald Carhill of Ogden; son Dale Carhill (Pamela) of Saipan; daughter Cindy Carlson (Roger) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Steven and Paula Carlson of Cedar Rapids, and Helen Carhill of Saipan; sisters-in-law Irene Madole of Brownsville, Texas and Ella Carhill of Jefferson, her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Service for LuAnn will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bouton, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday September 25 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa from 11:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. with family present 5:00-8:00.
