Marie Josephe Lind

Marie Josephe (Josette), daughter of Joseph Charles Delga and Simone Prudence Chavegrand Delga was born December 30, 1926 in Shanghai, China and died on November 11, 2018 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 91 years, 10 months, 12 days. Mrs. Lind had a Vigil services at6:30 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa, Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Perry, Iowa with Father Chris Reising presiding the Lectors were Kevin Lind and Dave Sutherland. Marie's Honorary Casket Bearers were Nina Sutherland, Elizabeth Maynard, Michelle Howard, Judy Witcher, Jenny deLang, Kati Cattnach, Dominique Lind and Nicky Wenger> Her Casket Bearers were Ron Sutherland, Dave Sutherland, John Lind, Kevin Lind, Tim Lind, Brandon Lind and Luke Wenger the Musican was Mr. Chuck Schott and Joe Mc Carty was the Usher with burial in Violet Hill Cemetery with her husband Hubert. Marie's father, Joseph, worked for the French government. Marie grew up with her sister Janine and attended school at the International School in the Enclave in Shanghai. After graduation she taught school for two years. Marie met the love of her life, Hubert Lind, on a blind date. He was a dashing U.S. Army Air Corps soldier, stationed in China. After the end of World War II, she traveled to America in 1947 where she was met by Hubert. The couple married in Roosevelt, New York and then made their journey to Iowa. Marie was a homemaker and a busy mother of seven children: Mary, Jim, Bob, Jeannette, Philip, Michael and Susan. They moved to Perry following ten years of farming in the Denison area. She was a stay at home mother until Susan was in 8th grade. Marie worked as a Resident Treatment Worker at the Woodward Resource Center for 18 years. She was a veracious reader, raised big gardens and was a great cook. Marie was a devout member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry and a beloved friend of the parish. Her family recalls her love of the holidays. Marie's faith sustained her through the deaths of her parents, Joseph and Simone, sister Janine Perlant, her infant daughter Jeannette, husband Hubert, son Jim, daughter-in-law Mary Lou, and great- grandson Drew Jacobson. Marie's love and her great life story will be forever cherished by her children: Mary Sutherland of Johnston; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Lind of Des Moines; Bob Lind of Thayer, Missouri; Phil Lind and wife Linda of Algona; Michael Lind and wife Lila of Mason City; and Susan Waters and husband David of Boone; 15 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Virginia Atkinson of Arizona; many nieces and nephews including those of Janine's family in France; other relatives and many friends.
