Hastings Funeral Home in PERRY is in charge of arrangements for Joy Allen, 83, of Jamaica. Joy Allen died Saturday at her home. She is survived by her children Frank Allen Jr. (Debra) of Perry; Lorie Allen of Jamaica; Dennis Allen of Bagley, Ken Allen (Angie) of Ottumwa, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon August 28, 2019 with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. also at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Richland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to her family for later designation. Marlene Joy Allen, daughter of John "Jack" Fredrick Swarm Sr. and Buleah Grace Brown Swarm was born December 18, 1935 at Dallas Center, Iowa and died August 24, 2019 at her home in Jamaica, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 8 months, 6 days Joy's funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019, Hastings Funeral Home, Perry, Iowa. Officiating Pastor Robert Rogers, Church of Christ, Bayard, Iowa. Her honorary casket bearers were Denise Dorpinghaus, Heather Barry, Jennifer Lundgren, Melissa Hudson, Penny Hudson, Roderick Hudson, Brooke Barnett, Jacob Barry, Jason Barry, Joshua Jay Allen, Brooklyn Lundgren, Landon Lundgren and Evelyn Lundgren. Joy's casket bearers were Frank Allen, Lorie Allen, Dennis Allen, Ken Allen, Dale Allen, Josh Allen, Kenton Allen and Jaydon Allen the musicians were Alta Summerson and Dick Bardole the music was In The Garden andI'll Fly Away recorded music was Kiss An Angel Good Morning with burial in Richland Township Cemetery, Jamaica, Iowa. A luncheon was held at the Jamaica Community Center. "Joy" as she was lovingly known, graduated Bagley High School in 1954. Joy was united in marriage with Frank Jay Allen Sr. on May 16, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Bagley. They were blessed with four children: Frank Jay Jr., Lorraine Joy, Dennis Jay, and Kenneth Jay. The couple lived south of Jamaica on the family farm and in the early 60's, moved outside of Jamaica to an acreage. Joy was a busy farm wife and mother. She also worked in Home Health Care and did housework for others. Joy was very artistic and enjoyed being a craft instructor and was in a Craft Business with Lorie. She kept busy sewing, knitting and crocheting. Joy had large gardens and canned the produce. She loved taking care of her cats and birds, watching them and having a strict feeding regiment for them! Joy enjoyed her memberships in the Methodist and Baptist churches and the Jamaica garden club. Importantly she was a volunteer for the Jamaica First Responders and the Fire Department. Joy was preceded in death by her parents Grace and Jack Swarm, husband Frank Jay Allen Sr. in 1994, young brother Jimmy Swarm and sister Donna Logsdon. Memories of Joy will be treasured by her children: Frank Jay Allen Jr. (Debra) of Perry, IA; Lorraine Joy "Lorie" Allen of Jamaica, IA; Dennis Jay Allen of Bagley, IA and Kenneth Jay Allen (Angie) of Ottumwa, IA; seven grandchildren: Dale Allen of Wichita, KS; Denise Dorpinghaus (Bobby) of Coon Rapids, IA; Jennifer Lundgren (Craig) of Shenandoah, IA; Melissa Hudson (Chayse) of Angier, NC; Heather Barry (Pat) of Pisgah, IA; Joshua Allen (Ashley) of Wahawai, HI and Kenton Allen (Randi) of Ottumwa, IA; ten great-grandchildren: Jaydon Allen of El Paso, TX; Brooke Barnett of Missouri Valley, IA; Jacob and Jason Barry both of Pisgah, IA; Penny and Roderick Hudson both of Angier, NC; Brooklyn, Landon and Evelyn Lundgren all of Shenandoah, IA and Joshua Jay Allen of Wahawai, HI; brothers Jack Swarm Jr. (Jan), Mike Swarm and Curt Swarm (Ginnie); sisters Sandy Scales and Angel Roan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
