Marlys Louise Schulte

Marlys Louise Schulte, 98, passed away on January 19th, 2024 at Deerfield Retirement Community, where she had lived the last many years. Marlys was born in Breda, Iowa on December 20, 1926 to Anton and Lillian Heisterkamp. She was raised in Breda along with her siblings Robert and Eldon.

Marlys married the love of her life, Herbert Schulte, on June 16th, 1947. She was truly devoted to him. Early in their marriage, she worked hard to put Herb through his higher education at Drake University. They were fortunate to share 72 happy years together. They were blessed with one daughter, Kim, who was the pride of Marlys' life. Marlys enjoyed serving as co-leader of Kim's Girl Scout troop when Kim was young. Later, Marlys, Herb, and their daughter Kim loved traveling around the country in their Mini Winnebago. In her free time, Marlys took pleasure in gardening and practicing her skills as a seamstress.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Lillian Heisterkamp; her husband Herbert; and her brother Eldon. She is survived by her daughter Kim Pabst (Donald) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her brother Robert, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Wednesday January 24th from 10am to 11am. A funeral Mass will be held at 11am, followed by a lunch at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Theresa Catholic School - 5810 Carpenter Avenue, Des Moines, 50311.
