Norma Jean Shaw

March 14, 1933 — November 7, 2019

Norma Shaw, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Azria Health of Winterset in Winterset, Iowa. She was born on March 14, 1933 in Lincoln Township, Madison County, Iowa, being one of six children born to Paul W. and Irma D. (Rehard) Kile. Norma attended several country schools in Madison County while growing up and graduated from Patterson High School in 1951. After graduating high school, she worked at the Northside Café before going to Des Moines to work. She later came back to Winterset and started working at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. She worked at the bank from August 1, 1972 to December 31, 1997, retiring after 25 years of serving the community, helping customers, and making life-long friends. Between those jobs, she married (Robert) Cecil Shaw on January 15, 1954, and to this union were born four boys. Norma devoted much of her life to raising her children with Cecil and to being a farmwife on 500 acres of heritage farmland – two of her greatest loves. She was active in her children’s school functions and also devoted her life to her grandchildren. Every Sunday she would make a homemade lunch and have lunch as a family at the dinner table sharing memories. She enjoyed doing yard work and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed going to Kile reunions, where family gathered every year to reunite families together. She also enjoyed laughing with her grandchildren to the point of tears (as her laugh was contagious), traveling to Oklahoma to see her son Steve and his wife Vanna Shaw, and having her son, Randy, around the corner to come down and help on the farm when needed. She attended a majority of her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheered them on as she was proud to be their grandma. Left to celebrate her life are her two sons, Randy Shaw of Winterset and Steve (Vanna) Shaw of Luther, OK; four grandchildren, Jace (Stephanie) Shaw of Winterset, Brance Shaw of Johnston, Trenton Shaw of Vancouver, B.C., and David Drake of Luther, OK; five great-grandchildren, Dominic Shaw, Wesley Shaw, Sadie Shaw, Jackson Drake, and Jacob Drake; brothers, Tom (Becky) Kile of Winterset and Rich (Bev) Kile of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Lorraine Kile; and a host of extended family and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, (Robert) Cecil Shaw; sisters, Joan Mealey, Evelyn Coffman, and Delores Kile (an infant); brother, Wayne Kile; and sons, Gary Shaw and Rick Shaw. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home Winterset Chapel where her family will greet friends one hour prior to her service. Memorials may be directed to EveryStep Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.caldwellparrish.com.
