Palmer D. Hansen

Palmer Dale Hansen, son of Palmer and Mabel Hansen, was born on January 10, 1930 and died on September 15, 2018. A Visitation will be held from 9-10 am with A Celebration of Life at 10 am, all on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel at 735 S. 14th St., Adel, followed by burial at 11 am at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel (at Van Meter/I-80 exit 113). Lunch and fellowship will follow at Noon at the Veteran’s Reception Center, 910 Main St., Van Meter. Palmer grew up on a farm near Exira and graduated from Audubon High School. In 1951, he was drafted into the US Army and served in the Korean War. On Valentine’s Day, 1955, he married Doris (Bonnie), the love of his life, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Palmer worked at Firestone Tires for over 30 years, but his passion was farming, including his parents’ farm and also land near Saylorville Lake and Altoona, eventually purchasing land south of Van Meter. Palmer loved to travel cross-country, family traditions, country music, old westerns, card games, and sitting outside enjoying the view from his backyard, farm, and winter home in Las Vegas. Palmer is survived by his wife Bonnie Hansen; sister Juanita (Leon) of Shell Beach, CA, sister Linda of Homewood, AL; daughter Sandra Laust of Des Moines; son Ted (Marie) Hansen of De Soto, and daughter Amy (Robert) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Wynona, Elaine, Betty, Donald and Russell, and his beloved son-in-law Jeffrey Laust. The family wants to give special thanks to the staff of the Village at Legacy Point and Suncrest Home Health and Hospice for their care and kindness.
