Raymond A. Nuzum, 82, of Winterset died Thursday, November 22, 2018, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, at the Jackson Building, Madison County Fair Grounds with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Raymond Arthur Nuzum was born at home near St. Charles, Iowa on January 11, 1936 to Russell A. & Vivian “Esther” (Rush) Nuzum. He attended country school and began high school in St. Charles. Ray’s sister Marge & husband, Harland asked Ray to help with their farming work, the summer before his junior year of high school. He stayed with them throughout his high school years and graduated from Buffalo Center, Iowa in 1954. He met and married Mary Fern Henson of Winterset on November 17, 1956. Four children were born to this union. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang for many weddings and funerals. The family enjoyed many camping vacations in national parks. Ray always worked multiple jobs at the same time: Martin Brother’s gas station, Wonder Bread (baking & a route), Bussanmus Tire, farming & mechanic work. His main job was working for the D.O.T. for 34 years. He retired to care for Mary Fern who was terminally ill. Eight years later, he married Dayna Decker Nuzum on June 28, 2008. Ray was a faithful husband who cared for and helped family and friends his entire life. He was a Mason in Evening Star Lodge #43 in Winterset, Iowa for 39 years. He conducted many Masonic Funerals. Ray and Dayna attended The Redeemer Church. They also spent their winters at Fiesta Village in Mission, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Dayna.; Children, Russell Nuzum of St. Charles, Raye DeLynne (Patrick) Cook of Winterset, Shelley (Larry) Molln of Winterset, Brett Nuzum (Gloria Waters) of Winterset; Stepchildren, Jovetta “Joy” (Dennis) Brown of Shannon City, Fonda (Jason) Bradford of Chariton, Curtis (Jerri) Decker of Afton; Sisters, Charlotte Rognehaugh of Nashville, Tennessee and Carolyn Taylor of Solon, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Dustin (Tiffany) Molln, Tiffanie (Brian) Wetzel, Gregory (Stacy) Cook, Danielle (Jarrod) Brown, Trent Nuzum, Clent Nuzum, Benjamin Nuzum, Lexy Nuzum, Britta (Jeremy) Thornburg, Reece Nuzum, Elijah Nuzum, Zachariah Nuzum,; twenty great grandchildren, Lucy Nuzum, Libby Nuzum, Claire Nuzum, Jill Nuzum, Jared Nuzum, Jesse Nuzum, Abigail Harlock, Vivian Wetzel, Max Wetzel, Emma Cook, Sydney Cook, Greyson Cook, Ellie Molln, Jaxson Jones, Evan Molln, Cole Brown, Halley Brown, Gus Hoover, Logan Thornburg, Caleb Thornburg; one great-great grandchild, Estella Harlock; nine step grandchildren, Clint (Christi) Brown, Megan (Matt) Parsons, Shane (Chelsey) Page, Melissa (Adam) Cunningham, Reagan Brown, Alexander Brown, Christopher (Jamie) Foreman, Randall Foreman, and Calli (Wes) Mitchell; and fourteen step great-grandchildren, Hadley Brown, Justin Parsons, Kylen Parsons, Mia Page, Reese Page, Maddox Page, Alleah Cunningham, Peyton Cunningham, Summer Cunningham, Christian Foreman, Addison Foreman, Rylee Mitchell, Gauge Mitchell, and Marlys Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Fern; sisters, Alixe Carstens, Kathleen Walsh, Mary Michaels, Marge Johnson and Corleen Hayden; a brother, Richie Nuzum; a grandson, Joshua Cook and a great-granddaughter, Audrey Nuzum.
