Richard Casson

August 4, 1931 — September 23, 2004

Dick was born August 4, 1931 in McClelland, Iowa, the son of John and Margaret (Underwood) Casson. He began work in tractor repair for Oliver Corporation shortly after high school and was later drafted into the United States Army. After his discharge in 1954, he did radio/TV repair for Council Bluffs Television and later moved to Winterset and worked as a lineman for Northwestern Bell, traveling throughout Iowa. During his time in Winterset, he met his future wife, Teressa M. McDonald. In 1956, Dick was transferred to work with the Western Electric Defense project on the Distant Early Warning radar in Northern Canada. He attended Iowa State College for a time and later married Teressa on September 2, 1961 in Des Moines. In 1994, after 33 years of service, he retired from FAA as Electronic Supervisor. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and John Casson; two sisters, Mildred Greenough and Margaret Mary Ryan. Dick was a Charter Member of the Airport Toastmasters, Board Member of the Madison County Historical Society since 1976, County Sesquicentennial Committee Member for the State Sesquicentennial, National Heisey Glass Club Member, Great Plains Heisey Glass Club Member, and a Committee Member on the Elementary School Referendum. He had been an active member of the Winterset Boosters, a Little League coach and AAU assistant coach, Men’s Garden Club, and a 3 time sweepstakes winner at the Iowa State Fair. Dick is survived by his wife, Teressa Casson of Winterset; one son, David Casson and his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Jennifer Casson Moorehead, and Juliette Casson Houseman and her husband, Rick; seven grandchildren, Marie, Travis, Amanda, Ryan, Caitlyn, Melissa and Robert; six brothers, Roscoe, Donald, James, Charles, Terry, and Keith Casson and two sisters, Jane Koch and Alice Cumming. McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas Township, Madison County, Iowa Visitation: 1:00 to 5:00 p.m, Sunday where the family will be present to receive friends during this time.
