Robert Dean Schulte, son of Ralph E. and Edith Gilland Schulte, was born July 25, 1935 at Lake City, Iowa and died December 11, 2010 at his daughter's home in Jefferson at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 16 days. Bob was raised on his parents' farm near Sac City and attended country school in that area. He obtained his GED in Jefferson. He entered the United States Army on November 17, 1953 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. After being released from active duty on September 30, 1955, Bob completed the active reserves and received his Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1961. On May 24, 1959, he was united in marriage with Ruth Ann Ricklefs at Pocahontas, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born: Carol, Raberta and Lori. Bob and Ruth's three girls joined the family to make a family of five daughters, including Bob's daughters from a prior marriage: Joyce and Terry Sue. Robert was an employee of the Iowa Department of Transportation for many years, having worked at Sac City, Algona, Perry, Minburn, and Jefferson. He served as supervisor at Sac City, Algona and Greene County until his retirement in the late seventies. Bob and Ruth continued to live in Jefferson following retirement. The couple enjoyed spending winters camping at the Padre Islands in Texas and in Arizona. They enjoyed a couple vacations in Las Vegas with their friends as well. Bob's family was the most important thing in his life. He was devoted to his grandchildren and greatly enjoyed attending their sporting events, having attended numerous softball and baseball games. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. His hobbies included going to the Uptown Caf every morning and the Truck Stop in the afternoon with his coffee buddies and watching western movies on television. In his younger years, he enjoyed coon hunting. He and Ruth enjoyed attending western dances during their marriage. After Ruth's death in 1994, he went dancing with friends at Lake Robbins Ballroom. On December 29, 2000, Bob married Bernice Mandernarch. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth in 1994; his wife Bernice, and two brothers: Donald Schulte and Gilbert Schulte. He is survived by his children: Joyce Raynett Rogers of Arkansas; Terry Sue Lloyd of Arkansas; Carol Mobley and her husband Tim of Jefferson, Iowa; Raberta Evans and her husband Allen of Tatonka, Iowa, and Lori Henderson of South Carolina. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Arron (Christie) Patterson; Christie (Elijah) Rudelis; Jody (Melissa) Rogers; Zach (Amanda) Rogers; Tehrah (Johnny) Carter; Amy (Marlin) Purdie; Bob (Tina) Mobley; Brittney Evans; Andy Evans; Heidi (Terrance) Reynolds; James Henderson and Kyle Henderson; 19 great-grandchildren: Ethan Patterson; Jordan, Josie & Jaydan Rudelis; Cheyenne & Will Rogers; Shelby & Carter Rogers; Austin, Isaac, & Cooper Carter; Dolly, Kierstin, George and Nathan Purdie; Colton, Madison & Kate Mobley, and Shian Reynolds. Bob is also survived by his sister Lucille (Paul) Wacker of Perry; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
