Ronald Gordon 'Ron' Potter

Ronald “Ron” Potter, 72 of Adel, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Cambria Cemetery near Cambria, Iowa. Family will greet friends at the funeral home Friday, February 16 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Ron was born April 12, 1945 in Des Moines to Leslie and Vivian (Broherd) Potter. He graduated in 1963 from Waukee High School. Following high school, he married Deanna Merical and they had two sons, Doug and Dan. On November 15, 1992 he married Mary Kay Lucas at Church of the Land at Living History Farms. Ron worked for the American Abstract Company for five years before becoming the Dallas County Deputy Assessor from 1974-1978 and then he became the Dallas County Assessor from 1979-2003. He was a member of the Iowa State Association of Assessors; International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO); and Bulletin Editor for the Assessors Association from 1988 to 2000. Ron received the ISAA Outstanding Member award in 1996. He was a member of the Adel Rotary Club and served as President in 1979. Ron currently worked part time for Russell Abstract and Title. Ron was also a long time member of the Hillcrest Country Club, enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, bowled for several years, enjoyed golf, and was a dedicated Hawkeye fan. Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Doug and Dan; siblings, Donna and Don; and first wife, Deanna. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles, Charlotte and Jim.
