Ron Thornburg, 64, of Forest Lake, Minnesota died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 5th at the Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service with a private family burial to follow at the Montpelier Cemetery near Patterson. Memorials may be made to the family and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com. Ronald Raymond Thornburg, son of Roy and Ida (Mares) Thornburg, was born May 13, 1951 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attended Winterset High School where he met his wife Linda Farlow. Ron graduated from Winterset in 1969. Ron and Linda were united in marriage on June 18, 1971 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. He worked in construction for over 35 years, mainly in Minnesota. Ron was very talented and enjoyed the work he did. He was a member of the Laborers’ Union for 41 years and held his membership mainly through Local 132 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ron retired from construction in 2009. Ron was an avid golfer, who never met a stranger on the many courses he played. Linda and Ron enjoyed being snowbirds, spending their recent winters in Florida in a community which housed three different 18 hole golf courses. He was a talented cook and grill master; pasta sauces and grilled pork being his specialties. Ron enjoyed fishing and socializing, but the time he spent with his family was cherished the most. He is survived by his wife Linda Thornburg of Forest Lake, MN; two sons, Brice Thornburg and girlfriend Melissa Crosariol of Chisago City, MN; Dustin Thornburg and wife Stefanie of Alexandria, MN; six grandchildren, Madison, Natalie, Brett, William, Stella, and Kate Thornburg; brothers, Rick Thornburg of Winterset; Jerry (Christy) Thornburg of Earlham; sister Patsy (Mark) Bence of Patterson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Ron is preceded in death by his parents and sister in law Kathy Thornburg.
