Sara Ann Mccarty

Sara Ann McCarty, age 59, of Grimes, Iowa passed away at Methodist West Hospital on Monday, September 24th in West Des Moines, IA due to complications from diabetes. She was born in Odessa, TX on May 7th, 1959 to Joe and Sara “Yvonne” (Barton) Fortner. She was a 93’ graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso where she earned a dual major in IT and Accounting. She was recruited after graduation by Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, IA where she was employed for 22 years before taking early retirement. Sara loved her two cats, Harley and Lily-Bell as well as the simple things in life like reading, going to Farmer’s Market with her family and just being with her daughter and grandchildren. She and her family enjoyed some competitive Hand and Foot card games where she was lovingly nicknamed, “The Beast”. She enjoyed football and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. She thoroughly enjoyed a road trip in May she got to take with her parents to see Mt. Rushmore and other sites. She is survived by her parents, Joe and Yvonne Fortner; her brother, Joe “Bo” Fortner and sister-in-law, Jo Marie Fortner; daughter, Brianna Crandall and son-in-law, Robert Crandall; grandkids, Kylie McCarty, Liam Crandall, and May Crandall; and niece, Riley Fortner and nephew, Reagan Fortner.
