Sondra Lynette Mapes was called to be with the Lord on November 13, 2005 at her home in Winterset. She was 65. She is survived by her mother, Althea Housman of Winterset, her five children, Rhonda Fleming (Craig) of Des Moines; David Mapes (JoAnne) of Perry; Brian Mapes and friend, Steven Watson of Des Moines; Ron Mapes (Jennifer) of Perry; Alicia Prosser of Perry; two brothers, Ronald J. Housman (Verna) of Ames; Terry Housman (Teena) of Winterset; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Floyd Housman. Sondra was born September 30, 1940 in Patterson, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Althea (Hathaway) Housman. She married Glenn Mapes on September 14, 1958 and to this union five children were born. Sondra was a member of the Perry Gospel Lighthouse Foursquare Church in Perry, Iowa where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed helping to decorate the church. As a child she attended the Foursquare Gospel Church in Winterset. Sondra was employed for 24 years at the Woodward State Hospital where she worked as a Residential Treatment Worker. She retired in 2002. Her hobbies included crocheting and scrap-booking and she was described as being a ‘rubber stamper extraordinaire.’ She also loved decorating for the residents at Woodward State Hospital making them feel at home. Visitation: 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare. Service: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare. Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.
