Stephen J. Mcintire

Stephen James Mcintire was born in Des Moines to Edwin and Charline Crouch McIntire on May 9, 1949 and died on June 22, 2020. Steve studied math and philosophy at the University of Kansas, and received a masters degree in philosophy at the University of Rochester in New York. Steve returned to Des Moines in 1978 and was employed by the Des Moines Daily Record (later, the Business Record) in various jobs until retirement, most recently as copy editor. The Daily Record was bought by his grandfather, Edwin Grant Mcintire, Sr., in 1905, making Steve the third generation to work there. Steve enjoyed movies, books, the Kansas Jayhawks, and Las Vegas. He was known for his vast knowledge, unique sense of humor, and a passion for correct grammar. Steve is survived by his sisters, Barbara Pildis, Raleigh, NC, and Diane Rose, Bethesda, MD. He always kept up with the lives of his nieces and nephews: Rachel, Jon, Abram, Charlotte, Maddie, and Jake. Donations may be made to the University of Kansas or a place of the donor’s choice.
