Thomas Eugene Lauterbach - Van Meter

Thomas Eugene Lauterbach, 74, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 11 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. A visitation reception will follow at the Van Meter American Legion Hall in Van Meter. Tom was an organ donor and cremated per his wishes. Tom was born October 7, 1939 in Waukee, IA the son of Claire and Hazel (Forret) Lauterbach and grew up on the farm north of Van Meter. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1957 and attended Iowa State University. He married Donna Edwards of Fontanelle, IA on August 31, 1963. Tom and Donna made their home and farmed in Van Meter their entire married life. He loved farming and raising cattle. He was deeply involved with his kids and their 4-H cattle projects and made many lifelong friends in the cattle industry. He was also a Boy Scout Leader, member of the Van Meter School board, the Lions Club, and the Booneville Co-op Board of Directors. Tom is survived by his wife Donna and children: Lance (Sherry) Lauterbach, Mike (Carri) Lauterbach, and Kris (Joe) Knowles; grandchildren, Cole and Clair Lauterbach and Nic, Lacey, and Nathan Lauterbach. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established with the Iowa Foundation For Agricultural Advancement to be given annually in Tom's name at the Iowa State Fair.
