Virginia Lee Gilbert - Adel

Virginia Lee Gilbert, 88, passed away August 1, 2012 at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. A private family burial will take place on Monday at Resthaven Cemetery. Virginia was born December 9, 1923 in Topeka, KS to Russell Robert Hunt and Sarah Irene Slater. The family moved to Des Moines when Virginia was a young child. She graduated from East High School in June 1942. She married Melvin Eugene Gilbert on December 25, 1943 while he was home on leave from the Marine Corps. Their early life together was spent in Central Iowa. In the 1950's they moved to a farm in Knoxville and Virginia worked as a nurse's aid at the VA Hospital. She is survived by her son, Melvin Lee (Sharon) Gilbert of Ocoee, FL; granddaughters, Stephanie Hamaric of Ocoee, FL and Katherine White of Wallingford, CT; sister, Ann Grismore; great grandchildren, Alexander, Laura, and William Hamaric and Holden, Ellen, and Landon White. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
