Alan Arthur Hoover, 71, of Des Moines, Iowa died on October 21, 2014. On June 3, 1943, Alan was born to Forest and Dorothy (Enfield) Hoover in Des Moines, Iowa. Alan was the second of three children. Alan was baptized as a Jehovahs Witness in 1957 in Idaho Springs, Colorado and enjoyed a study of the Bible that proved to be a guide throughout his life. Starting in 1959, he began a street ministry work friends that continued until his death. In 1962, Alan graduated from Des Moines Tech High School. Alan worked as a tool & die maker and later opened his own janitorial business. Alan was a licensed Iridologist (study of the eye). He also studied with the herbalist Dr. John Christopher in California. Alan loved his 1960 light blue Nash Rambler. He had numerous cars and motorcycles that he enjoyed modifying and maintaining. In about 1975, Alan & his father discovered Subarus and it became a lifelong hobby of working on and driving them. His family has many fond memories of riding motorcycles and dune buggies with Alan as well as watching documentaries on train lore with him. He also had a love for board games and taught family members to play chess. Alan is survived by his sister, Harriet Gooding; nieces, Carol Bristley, Sandy (Darcy) Rasmussen, Cathy Gooding and Christy (George) Mettler; nephew, David Gooding; six great nieces, seven great nephews and a great grandnephew. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fredrick Hoover and niece, Nancy Gooding. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 420 Watrous Ave, Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
