Alice Bown, 102, of Winterset died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Winterset Care Center South. A visitation will be held 2 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 4th at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 5th at Ochiltree’s with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Winterset. Alice Darline Edgington was born January 10, 1910 in Osceola, Iowa; the daughter of Isaac and Cora (Austin) Edgington. Alice graduated from Osceola High School in 1928. She married Joseph Bown August 1, 1933 at the Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Indianola Iowa and they were together for 49 years until Joe died in 1983. Alice would most like to be remembered as a devoted farm wife and mother. She also worked for Ben Franklin’s in Indianola and Winterset. She also worked at Top Brands and Grahams Clothing Store both in Winterset. Alice is survived by her children, son, George Bown and daughter, JoAnn (Mack) Jamison both of Winterset. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her spouse, her parents; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Bown and three brothers, Don, Sam and Joe.
