Alice Gawehn

Alice Gawehn passed away on August 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Council Bluffs on February 21, 1947 to Russell and Helen “Caster” Madsen. Alice was an avid Husker football fan. She would yell at the television and at the referees even though they couldn’t hear her. She loved sewing and made a sequin calendar yearly for her kitchen. She loved cooking, making numerous batches of fruit cake for family through the years, eating at the Cozy Café with her husband, and family trips to South Dakota and California. A majority of her travels were to and from the Omaha area for family functions. She was a member of the Lioness Club and proud winner of the Dedicated Service in Lionism award. Most of all, Alice always took care of everyone else first. Her family was her life. She is survived Herb, her husband of nearly 54 years; children Dwight (Mary Sue) and Emily (Brett); grandsons Luke and Erik; siblings Ray (Pat) Madsen, Mildred (Jerry) Corey, Chuck (Sandra) Madsen, Eileen Reed, Mary (Jim) Wayman, Patty (Pat) McGranaghan, Steve Madsen, Rita (Ray) Seaman, Tom (Michele) Madsen, and Dan Madsen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Don and Dennis Madsen. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA 50322. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St., Urbandale, IA 50322. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for Luke and Erik’s college education.
