Alice Irene Couch

Alice Irene (Haines) Couch passed away peacefully April 2, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Alice was born April 15, 1915 near Fort Lupton, Colorado and moved to Iowa with her parents in 1917. She attended school in Redfield, Iowa, graduated in1933 and went on to teach school until marrying Chauncey Couch on August 20, 1942. They made their home on the Couch family farm southwest of Adel, Iowa. Alice and Chauncey retired from farming and moved into Adel in the late 1970s. Alice thoroughly enjoyed entertaining their many friends and family in their Adel home. She was an avid golfer, achieving a remarkable feat of 9 “holes in one” throughout her golfing years. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Chauncey Couch; parents, Ernest and Clara Haines; a twin brother, Ernest; infant brother, Edward; and sisters Helen Imboden and Virginia Harvey. She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Oakdale Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6 at McCalley Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Adel Public Library.
