Alice Jean Wolf, passed away quietly on September 15, 2016, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines after a brief illness. She was born on September 30, 1954, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Duane and LaVonne Zimmerman. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1972 and was married on June 10 of that year to Jeff Barger with whom she had four children, Shem, Venessa, Nicolas, and Luke. In addition to being a loving mother, after her children were all in school, Alice worked in sales for which she had a natural talent, because she cared honestly and truly for everyone she met and treated all her customers as friends. Alice married Nate Wolf July 6, 2001, and together they traveled, listened to music, spent time with family, including her children and grandchildren, and took their dog to brighten the lives of shut-ins and the elderly. Alice had a sharp wit and kept her family on their toes, as they were lovingly skewered for their personal foibles. She will be deeply missed for her ability to love unconditionally and to live in the moment. She is survived by her husband, Nate; her children Shem (Jill) (Fairfield, IL), Venessa Hageman (Al) (Urbandale), Nick (Urbandale), Luke (Reseda, CA); 5 grandchildren (Caleb, Isabella, Noah, Bond, Kaylee); her parents; sister, Cindy Gay (Green Mountain); brother, Mark Zimmerman (Urbandale); and the extended family she created around her. Memorial services will be held at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale at 2 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at Giovannetti Community Shelter Hall at Walker Johnston Park until 9 p.m.
