Alice M. (Neighbors) Lander

Alice M. Lander, 90, of Winterset, died February 29, 2012 at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset. Services for Alice Lander were privately held in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Orillia, Iowa in Warren County on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Alice Marie Neighbors was born April 29, 1921 in Unionville, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Fern (Smith) Neighbors. She married Russell Lander. Alice worked for Sears as a salesperson in Grinnell, Ames and Des Moines for many years. She was a member of the Gilman Saddle Club of which she was secretary for many years. She also was secretary of the school board in Newbury, Iowa. Alice loved horses; enjoyed dancing and playing cards and hosting card parties during the winter months. Alice is survived by her husband Russell of Winterset; her three children, Lola (Don) Kaufmann of Charlotte, NC, Al (Carolyn) Keese of AR, and Jim (Betty) Keese of Van Meter; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her only brother, Albert Lee Neighbors.
