Anna Theresa Gomes

Anna Theresa Gomes, also known to her family as Ruth, was born on March 21, 1918 in Moruga, Trinidad to Wilfred and Cecilia Pegus. She passed away while sleeping peacefully on January 15, 2022 in Des Moines, Iowa. Anna was blessed to have nine siblings, all of whom have predeceased her: Maggie, Ranny, Polly, Frankie, Ruthvan, Gladys, Vera, Ruby, and Stella. Anna is survived by her husband Anselmo, also known to the family as Selmo, her beloved son Michael, and many nephews, nieces, and dear friends. Anna went to school in Canada and lived there before settling in the United States. She worked for a large shipping company and in various other jobs during her career. Anna was a very devout and prayerful Roman Catholic. She was active in the life in the spirit community and as a Parishioner at St. Ambrose Cathedral. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 8201 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 20th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 607 High St., Des Moines, IA. Interment will immediately follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Cathedral, University Park Nursing & Rehab, or Suncrest Hospice.
