A service for Annie Laura Mickelson was held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Tim Johnson of the First Christian Church provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Heaven VanDorn, Anna VanDorn, Brandy Streed, Tonya Hauschildt, Tracy Anderson and Shannon Mack. Casket bearers were: Drew Mickelson, Jim VanDorn, Jimmy VanDorn, Jeff VanDorn, Kyle VanDorn and Kevin VanDorn. Recorded music selected was How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace. Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Following the services at the cemetery was a luncheon at the American Legion Building in Perry. Annie Laura Mickelson, daughter of Ervin Brewer and Laura Reichard Brewer, was born October 29, 1927 in Perry, Iowa and died March 9, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa at the age of 87. Annie was a lifelong resident of Perry. She graduated from Perry High School in 1946 and after high school started working for Woolworths. On January 4, 1948 Annie and Martin Mickelson were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with two sons Michael and Sam. Annie started work for Peggy Ann Candy in 1966. She then worked for Perry Milk Products (later known as Meadow Gold) as an ice cream maker. Annie worked for Meadow Gold for 22 years before retiring in 1989. Annie was also a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she was treasurer for most of her membership. Annie also volunteered many hours at Kings Daughters Hospital, now known as Perry Lutheran Home . Annie enjoyed spending her free time in the kitchen, watching cooking programs on T.V., playing bingo and bird watching. Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin (August 6, 1983); son Sam Mickelson (September 30, 2014), brothers and sisters: Louise Hall (Elmer), George Brewer, Max Brewer (Mary), Al Brewer (Ranada), Charles Brewer and brother-in-law Merlin Davis. Annie is survived by her son Michael Mickelson (Judy) of Perry, IA; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Susan Mickelson of Perry, IA; sister Nellie Davis of Perry, sister-in-laws Maria Brewer of Killeen, TX and Josephine Brewer of Scottsdale, AZ.
