Ardis Jean Carrico died August 16th at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren near Adel with burial at Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Panther Creek. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 19th at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Ardis was born June 13, 1921 on the family farm north of Redfield, Iowa where she lived for over ninety years until moving to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center in 2012. Ardie was the consummate farm wife. She worked in the fields when an extra hand was needed and did all the chores around the house while raising three children. She loved animals especially the five schipperke dogs she had over the years. She took care of her own lawn well into her 80's and loved playing board games and watching westerns on TV. She loved to knit and made hundreds of sweaters and afghans. She belonged to the Redfield Legion Auxiliary, the Linn Progressive Homemakers' Club and was a long-time member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren. Ardie is survived by her son Jerry (Ruth) Carrico of Redfield, daughter Jean Burch of Pleasant Hill, and daughter-in-law Beverly Carrico of Adel. Her grandchildren include Jason (Julie) Carrico of Williamsburg, Jennifer Carrico of Redfield, and Allison (Eric) Coburn of Cedar Park, Texas. Great-grandchildren include Katie and Laura Carrico, Kassidy and Klayton Bremer, Chance and Kylie Coburn, and many cousins also survive. Ardie was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie, her son Jim Carrico, her son-in-law Bill Burch, and her parents Jim and Ina Pardekooper. Memorial contributions may be directed to her church of the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be left on this site.
